Years ago, it used to take 24 - 48 hours; however it now should typically take no more than a few hours.

Many registrars use real time DNS; however the DNS change may not display locally right away as their is often local caching at your location.

Please note, that if the domain is registered through us, then it will only take a few minutes. Our registrar has real time DNS which ensures the update is almost immediate.
